I read That Night in New York by Laura Wilkinson over Christmas and really enjoyed this quirky love story. This is Harry met Steph, on a plane, and then in a magical blackout in New York City. One night that changes them both forever.
Back in the UK, in the cold light of day, it is not an easy journey to finding each other again. Steph is the organiser of a save the local park group from the evil developers that are threatening to destroy it with a new housing development, and it turns out that Harry runs the firm of architects behind the plan. On opposite sides, Harry is trying to find a way to hear Steph’s concerns and is hosting Steph’s daughter on work experience, but Steph is having none of it, stuck in a crap job, living her life through her daughter Lola and determined to fight for the park and deny her feelings for Harry. Lola meanwhile is a feisty teenager, growing up with cerebral palsy, keen to find and meet her Dad, and navigating a path between her over-protective Mum and her cool new boss.
Will the park be destroyed, will Lola forgive her Mum for keeping her Dad from her, will Harry be free of his grief and will Steph open her heart and embrace some new beginnings? Thankfully this all ends well.
