The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra

I listened to The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra by Vaseem Khan a few months ago, having very much enjoyed his Malabar House series (see my blogs on City of DestructionMidnight at Malabar HouseDying Day, The Lost Man of Bombay and Death of a Lesser God), and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The last thing retired Inspector Chopra is expecting is to inherit an elephant, least of all one who becomes exceedingly useful in solving crime. With Ganesh at his side, Chopra makes his way through Mumbai trying to find the killer of a young boy, the chaos the elephant causes coming in handy, and in one case saving his life, as he leads Chopra to safety after heavy flooding.

Chopra is determined to get to the bottom of what he is convinced is a cover-up despite his retirement, and his plan to find somewhere more suitable for Ganesh to live fades away as their bond deepens and its clear they have a future together in founding the Baby Ganesh Detective Agency. This was a really fun and quirky listen and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
